Spurred on by the universal female suffrage movement that had begun in New Zealand, International Women’s Day originated from labor movements in North America and Europe during the early 20th century. The earliest version was purportedly a “Women’s Day” organized by the Socialist Party of America in New York City February 28, 1909 but thankfully the idea has withstood the test of time. Henceforth, inspired German delegates at the 1910 International Socialist Women’s Conference to propose “a special Women’s Day” to be organized annually, albeit with no clear date. The following year saw the first demonstrations and commemorations of International Women’s Day across Europe.
So What Are Women’s Rights? Time To Know:
Women’s rights are the rights and entitlements claimed for women and girls worldwide. They were officially established by the women’s rights movement in the 19th century and the feminist movements during the 20th and 21st centuries. In some countries, these rights are institutionalized or supported by law, local custom, and behavior, whereas in others, they are ignored and suppressed.
These rights are;
– A woman’s right to bodily integrity and autonomy,
A woman’s right to be free from sexual violence.
A woman’s right to vote.
A woman’s right to hold public office and to be successful.
A woman’s right, to enter into legal contracts and be justified.
A woman right to have equal rights in family law.
A woman’s right to work.
A woman’s right to fair wages or equal pay to sustain a living.
A woman’s right to have reproductive rights,
A woman’s right to own property, and to education.
Let’s give women all these rights so that mankind may live in harmony with each other. Happy Womens day!
